* HOW TO RELEASE A SINGLE * PT. 8
We have shifted gears and turned the corner! In preparation for the "THINK" single release party on 12.29.2006 at JOJO Bar [1518 U St. NW, DC 20009], we have transitioned from writing, recording, and preparing the single to promoting and practicing for the show!
The "THINK" cd single is currently in production at Disc Makers with a scheduled completion date of 12.20.2006. Now that the process of putting together the single is (more or less) complete, I have shifted my focus to the art of marketing & promotions and band practice.
ONLINE PROMOTIONS
Phatcats Entertainment has been doing a great job pushing the event online. Proof of their work can already be seen when using Google to do a web search on CRISTOPOLIS, the first page already pulls up 2 or more listings related to the "THINK" single release party/performance. They have also been busy sending email blasts related to the upcoming event. KestaDC will also be helping with online promotions by using their extensive email list to do an email blast the week of the event and by including the event in their monthly newsletter.
STREET PROMOTIONS
Beba Productions, will be hitting the streets and pushing the event out to the club crowd! Along with hitting DC's hotspots Beba Productions will also be helping out with finding dancers for the night of the event. Mr. Forge, VMasta & DJ Wanako have also received a few hundred flyers each and are actively pushing the event in their local areas. Personally I have hit up all the music spots, restaurants and community bulletin boards in Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant, Adams Morgan, U Street, Dupont Circle, and the Atlas District.
PRINT PROMOTIONS & MARKETING
This coming week we will be running an ad in the Washington City Paper, it will run from Dec. 21-28th. The graphic design work was prepared by Juan Luis of Media644 and can be seen in the upper left hand corner of this blog. Aside from the paid for marketing I have been in contact with the Washington Post, El Tiempo Latino, Washington City Paper, and the Washington Post Express for potential write ups. We have not received an official confirmation from any of these periodicals but we have our fingers crossed!
RADIO PROMOTIONS
On Saturday, Dec. 16th from 3-5pm I will be on CPR 97.5 with DJ Wanako giving all those who tune in a preview of the "THINK" Maxi-Single! I hope you tune in and give us some feed back! Also on Wednesday, Dec. 27 I will be on WPFW 89.3 with the Decipher Holla Back team which consists of DJ Tru, DJ Noodles and Mazi. Their interviews are always great, and deeply anchored in Hip-hop culture. I'm looking forward to previewing the single on there show (just two days before the release!)
BAND PRACTICE
Band practice starts tonight! We will also be practicing again on Monday, Dec. 18th, I will be meeting and practicing with the dancers during the next couple of weeks, and depending on how well the band, the dancers and I know our parts we will decide on whether we need more practices together. I personally, practice the set at least once a day starting about 10 days before the event, but I practice my individual songs routinely.
